RAYMOND LUDOVICO HUYGELEN FAMED ARTIST BORN NOVEMBER 28, 1946 IN ANTWERP, BELGIUM DIED NOVEMBER 16, 2004 IN CORFU, GREECE
His nickname was Mondo and he was known by Mondo d’Ho as an artist. He had Aids and died a sudden and tragic death in Corfu.
Having earned his diplomas in art and sculpture by 1967 he went to work in the art profession for various art and film journals. He has an extensive array of paintings and sculptures which over the years have been exhibited across major European cities such as Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam and before his death in Corfu.
He founded the Jane Mondona Foundation which helps artists and plans exhibitions for their works. Currently the foundation is headed by Sabine D. Kaatzer who is an artist herself and was a close associate of the late Mondo.
Having Aids himself, he also organized a program to help people infected by Aids using art as a means of helping them in their struggle for survival. In his last email he wrote that the foundation must give grants to sick artists to help in their recovery.
The Janet Mondana Foundation has organized a special tribute to Mondo d’Ho exhibiting many of his works in Corfu from October 4th to the 30th 2008.
The Place: Pinacotheque of Corfu Town
The title of the exhibition is:
<O KOSMOS TOU MONN d’HO> (The world of Mondo d’Ho)
A selection of his paintings, scultures and aquarelles will be included in the exhibition. The present themes of the exhibition will be accompanied by the spirit of the artist and his way to live with his illness in Corfu. Dialogues about HIV and Aids will also be organized by the “Center of Helping on Corfu” and by the Berliner Aidshilfe.
